5 Common Misconceptions Job Seekers have about Staffing Agencies

They hire anyone and everyone who applies – Although a staffing service is always hiring and always has a variety of open positions to fill, they still have to be conscious of the placement criteria of the client companies whose open positions they are trying to fill.  If an applicant’s skills, experience, work history, personality, or other qualifications don’t match those criteria, the staffing agency may not be able to place that person at one of their client companies, so they would not hire that applicant.

They take money out of their employees’ paychecks – A staffing agency never charges their employees a fee to help them find or job or takes any part of the employee’s paycheck.   A staffing agency’s profits are generated by billing their client companies a fee for the services of the employees they place.  Out of this fee the staffing service pays the wages of their assigned employees and all associated payroll taxes including workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation.  Assigned employees of the staffing agency are told their hourly wage up front, and nothing is taken out of their pay other than required taxes or legally mandated deductions (like child support).

They don’t offer any benefits to their assigned employees – The vast majority of staffing agencies in the U.S. offer some employee benefits.  At Flex-Staff, we offer vacation and holiday pay as well as medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, and term life insurance to all of our assigned employees.  We even offer a 401k plan with a company match to all who qualify.

They’re just in it to make a profit and they don’t care about their assigned employees – A staffing agency is like any for-profit business and needs to make a profit to be successful and stay I business to be able to provide their services.  But to be profitable they need their assigned employees to be happy, enthusiastic, and productive, and for them to be willing and able to stay on their assignments.  Because of that it’s the goal of the staffing agency to match their assigned employees with positions that most closely fit their skills, interests, career goals, and employment needs.  The best way for a staffing agency to keep their client companies happy is by keeping their employees happy.
