DO eat right. Your body is like an engine, and food is its fuel. If you’re low on fuel or using poor quality fuel, you won’t go very far or very fast. Healthy foods in reasonable portion sizes with snacks as an occasional treat will keep your engine running smoothly.
DON’T overdo it physically. Exercise is important for staying fit, and pushing yourself in the gym can build strength and stamina. Just know your limitations.
DO exercise your brain as well as your body. Puzzles and brain games have been shown to improve cognitive function and can help reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by keeping the brain active and stimulated.
DON’T neglect your mental health. Learn to recognize the warning signs of depression, anxiety, and stress in yourself and others, and seek professional help if necessary.
DO make sure you get enough sleep. Letting yourself become run down can make you more susceptible to physical illness, mental and emotional stress, and accidents.
DON’T feel like you need to compete with your friends, neighbors, or coworkers. Challenge yourself and always do your best but know that the only person you need to be better than is the person you were yesterday.
DO maintain a proper work/life balance. Try not to bring your job home with you when you leave at the end of your workday. You need time away from the stresses of the job to relax and recover physically, mentally, and emotionally.
DON’T go it alone. Having a partner to share the workload both on the job and at home can allow you to achieve more with the time you have, reduce stress, and make everything you do more enjoyable.
